Why get married in Jamaica?

Jamaica has breath-taking Caribbean beaches, but is just as famous as the home of reggae music. From the Blue Mountain peaks across the rainforest to the wonderful beaches, this colourful island, the third largest of the Caribbean islands will win your heart. The island's unique character has a great deal to boast about from the world's best coffee, world class diving reefs, hiking tours, fishing villages, waterfalls, wetlands and manatees to wonderful sunsets and cosmopolitan cities - there really is something for everyone to enjoy.

Getting married in Jamaica - the requirements in brief...

Couples can be married 24 hours after arrival, providing that a prior application has been made for a marriage licence.

Documents required:

  • proof of citizenship (original birth certificate)
  • proof of status –if married previously, present original divorce documents (Decree Absolute) or death certificate
  • if either party has had their name changed by deed poll, legal proof is required which has been certified by a solicitor or lawyer. This is also the case if a previously married woman has reverted to her maiden name
  • if either party has been adopted then an original copy of the certificate is required, or a certified copy
  • written parental consent if either party is under the age of 18

Fees and stamp duty are payable and all documents not in English must be accompanied by a certified translation.
